On Wednesday, a note went home about the Collections Project.  Students are bringing tagboard home for their projects today.  This document is the note which includes a picture of how to cut and fold your tagboard to make it stand up.  collectionsproject

In reading camp this week, some students created a performance containing OO words.  Here they are!

I will miss you all very much while I’m gone!  Check the blog out next week, I hope to post some pictures and information about the baby!  This week students completed a page for a baby book for the baby.  They wrote down what they think I should name the baby, and they wrote some parenting advice and big brother tips for Charlie.  It was a very entertaining read, and will be a great momento!

Here is the newsletter for next week.  Dec 19-23  We are not starting a new story next week, so we created a fun spelling list.  There will be no challenge spelling next week.

Next week I plan on sending home a letter giving information about my maternity leave, my long term sub’s contact information (Ms. McAuley), and your child’s progress and concerns since our last conference.  My first offical day of maternity leave is January 9th, but I want to give the letter out before winter break in case this baby decides to come early!

Our class did an awesome job on the Johnny Appleseed play this week.  I’m currently working on editing the video together, and will post to the blog before winter break.  Everyone worked so hard, we were able to have the video taping done in an hour!

This week we enjoyed reading with our buddy class, Mrs. Ottinger’s 4th graders.  This coming week, we will be seeing them again to play Bingo.

Zoe, and her mom, Danielle, taught us about the celebration of Chanukuh on Thursday.  We played the dreidel game, made a tasty craft, learned about the menorah, and other customs and traditions of this Jewish holiday.  The students had a lot of good questions. 

Here’s a bit of holiday laughter for you.  Charlie loves to see Santa in books and on TV.  He even talks about how he’s going to give Santa a “Big Hug!” and ask Santa for a “Crane!”  This is how his Santa picture turned out.

In the Media Center with Mrs. Erickson we’ve been doing a step by step research report about the Ankylosaurus. This blaggerize is part of our final project.

Instead of receiving tickets for a ticket drawing, students will now be losing tickets.  At the beginning of each week, each student will receive 6 tickets.  They are responsible for their tickets by putting their names on them, and placing them safely in their school box.  A student could loose a ticket if they are not being responsible, respectful, or trying their best to learn.  If a student has 5 or 6 tickets left at the end of the week, they will receive a “Right on Track” coupon, since they have proven that they are being a Rice Lake Roadrunner who practices Respect, Learning, and Responsibility.  All the tickets students have left will be placed in the ticket bucket for a classroom prize drawing.  If a student has no tickets remaining, they do not get to participate in Enrichment Camp on the last day of the week. 

We also received new locker assignments and a new seating arrangement to start of trimester two.

Johnny Appleseed is a play we are turning into  a movie, and the students learned their parts today.

It is a big month for birthdays!  We have birthdays on the 5th, 6th, 7th, 8th, 10th, 11th, 22nd, and 22th.  Please refer to the note in the Wednesday envelope if you’re wondering what is appropriate for birthday treats with the new policy.

Report Cards will go home in tomorrow’s Wednesday envelope.
